You can’t take my joy.
People have tried for years. And although some of them actually succeeded for a while, not anymore. I’ve come to realize that life is about what WE make it, not what others make it. There will always be “others” who will not support, will not unconditionally love, will not be happy for, and will only put their own doubts, fears, jealousy, and bad vibes on you. And for some, it’s not really their fault. Perhaps it’s their circumstances, or how they were raised. Perhaps something catastrophic (a relative term) happened to them recently, but in all actuality, it doesn’t matter if it’s their fault or not. What matters is that you don’t let their actions steal your joy, your happiness, your good vibe. Because your life is not about them. It’s not. It’s about you. It’s about those you choose to surround yourself with. It’s about only having so much time here on earth. It’s about choosing to be kind. It’s about choosing to fulfill YOUR dreams, YOUR bucket list, YOUR desires. It’s about choosing to walk away when you need to. It’s about loving yourself first so you can love others unconditionally, which even includes those who don’t support you. Kind of ironic isn’t it? But again, it’s not about what other people do, it’s about what you do.
And those people you thought loved and supported you and they turned and so you want to turn your back too? Don’t. Just keep doing you. Because chances are, one day, they may have a change of heart, and they may decide to come back because deep down, no matter their actions, they always loved you. And you never moved. You stayed. And they know this – which is why they come back. Or maybe they don’t and that’s OK, too. Don’t give anyone a reason to say something bad about you that isn’t already a reflection of themselves. It takes some people longer than others to find out who and what they are and then love themselves completely. But not you. You get it already. I get it already. And my joy belongs to me. That way I can spread it. The truth is when I let someone steal it from me, I have none to share with those around me, those who need it, those who the universe put on my path. Misery loves company. But you know what? So does happiness. What do you choose?
Pass it on.
